European intelligence services have been accused of informing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad about 1,200 Islamists who had arrived from Europe to fight in the ranks of the rebels, ITAR-TASS cites The Wall Street Journal.
According to European intelligence, the Islamists will become a threat upon returning back from Syria. The contacts with Syria are meant to weaken the growing power of Al Qaeda and they cannot be regarded as attempts to stimulate diplomatic relations.
