CIS will evolve into Eurasian Union, expert believes

The Eurasian Union is the body that will some day replace the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), a member of the European Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Alexander Gusev, told Vestnik Kavkaza.

According to the expert, the Eurasian Union, which will be the next stage of the Eurasian Economic Union scheduled to be launched on January 1, 2015, will become the new integration body for the former Soviet republics.

"It seems to me that the CIS will evolve into the Eurasian Union. The establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union will be the first step in this process," Gusev believes.
