The Russian Cabinet plans to pass amendments to the Criminal Code. According to a bill the Cabinet is working on, false reports about terrorist attacks will be punished with a fine of 200,000-500,000 rubles, 18-36 months of salary or up to 5 years imprisonment, RIA Novosti reports.The large damage caused by such telephone calls is a sum exceeding 1 million rubles.The authors of the bill say that identifying the callers is complicated because SIM cards are often registered under other people’s names, data is often ciphered, providers of Internet services are sometimes located abroad and use of proxy servers is common.A false terrorism call may sometimes cause material damage of over 5 million rubles.
