Iranian president to visit Davos forum for first time in 10 years

The Davos World Economic Forum 2014 will begin its work on January 22. One of the most prominent figures among the more than 2,500 delegates will be the President of Iran, Hassan Rouhani. The last secular leader of Iran to visit Davos before Rouhani was President Mohammad Khatami, he visited Davos in 2004. Later, amid tensions with the West, Iran's presence at the forum was limited to visits of foreign ministers.

"The Reshaping of the World: Consequences for Society, Politics and Business" is the main theme of Davos 2014. An illustrative example of these changes is the Iranian President's participation in the forum and in general the continuation of the policy of "pacification" of the U.S. and the EU with Iran and a change of priorities in foreign policy.

President Rouhani will speak at the plenary session on January 23, which will be held as a part of the panel "Iran in the World." Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will take part in a discussion entitled "The End Game for the Middle East" on
January 24.
