Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian confirmed receipt of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s invitation to the Geneva-2 Conference of Monteux on Wednesday, RIA Novosti reports.
Ban Ki-moon announced yesterday that he had sent the invitation. He believes that Iran will play a positive and constructive role at the Syrian peace talks.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif promised to accept the invitation, should one be sent from Ban Ki-moon. The Syrian National Coalition said that it would skip Geneva-2, should Iran be invited.
