Geneva-2 Conference opens in Montreux

The Geneva-2 Conference for Syria has opened in Montreux (Switzerland). 40 countries are taking part in the talks. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon thanked the Syrian government and opposition for participating in the conference, RIA Novosti reports.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry will make speeches.

Lavrov met Kerry yesterday. Ban Ki-moon and Special Envoy of the UN and LAS for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi joined their meeting. Lavrov met Foreign Ministers Wang Yi (China) and Nabil Fahmy (Egypt).

Ban Ki-moon met Ahmed Jarba, Head of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces.
