New prosecutor general appointed in Georgia

Georgy Badashvili has been appointed as Georgia's new prosecutor general. Badashvili is set to replace Zurab Partskhaladze, who has recently turned out to have a criminal record.

The head of the Governing Strategy Institute and former head of the State Chacellor's Office, Petre Mamradze, says he had never heard the new prosecutor general's name before his appointment.

He also notes that Badashvili is believed to have taken part in the kidnap of former prime minister Vano Merabishvili and underlines that it's quite clear that the new prosecutor general was chosen by the Prime Minister himself and not by the Minister of Justice as is required by Georgian law.

All these facts make the expert suspicious, he says.
