Expert on Georgia's integration into EU

This week the European Union and Georgia started talks aimed at finalization of the Association Agreement. In the framework of the talks the parties are expected to make the list of measures necessary to be taken before signing the document.

Vestnik Kavkaza discussed the process with Georgian expert Petre Mamradze.

According to the expert, the most important step is to improve the Georgian law in order to eliminate any congradiction with the European law. Such a reform is truely necessary for successful integration into the European Union, Maradze says.

He notes however that the Association Agreement doesn't mean that Georgia will be able to join the EU any time soon. "Turkey has been an associate member of the EU for 50 years," the expert underlines.
