Experts of Russia, US and Syria are discussing destruction of 12 undeclared facilities of the Syrian program for chemical weapons, says a letter of OPCW Ahmet Uzumcu to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, RIA Novosti reports.
The talks maybe continued in early February. Such technical discussions were held at the OPCW secretariat on January 16-17. Ban Ki-moon said that destruction of Syrian chemical weapons was behind schedule, despite all the financing provided for the process.
According to plan, the chemical weapons were to be moved from Syria by December 31, 2013. Instability in the country dragged the process. About 20 tons of mustard gas should be transported from Syria by March 31, 2014. All Syryain chemical weapons should be destroyed by late June 2014.
