Syrian government and opposition start new round of talks in Geneva

Lakhdar Brahimi, Special Envoy of the UN and the Arab League for Syria, is mediating a new round of talks between the Syrian government and the opposition in Geneva, ITAR-TASS reports.

The delegations are basically making the same declarations every day and their views remain opposite to each other. The governmental delegation is ready to discuss any topics, except resignation of President Bashar al-Assad, who, in their words, will only leave after the elections.

The Syrian National Coalition refers to the Geneva Communique of June 30, 2012, passed at the so-called Geneva-1 Conference. The document presupposes resignation of Assad and his executives.
