Officials from Georgia's Gldani Prison N8 have been sentenced to 9 years in prison by the Tbilisi City Court. Five other suspects have been found non-guilty. One was sentenced to two years and two suspects sentenced to six years in prison.
Sergo Tetradze died after being questioned at the prison in September 2011. The first criminal case on his death was closed. The officials and some other suspects were charged when another case was opened.
Alexander Mukhaidze, ex-Head of the Gldani Prison, Oleg Patsatsiya, head of the regime service of the prison, Victor Kacheishvili, Head of the security service of the prison, were jailed on January 27.
Police officers Tornike Gunava and Kokhta Kodua were also sentenced for beating Tetradze. They got 6 years. Officer Zviad Kapanadze got 2 years. Kodua is currently on the run.
