The people of South Ossetia will do anything so that Russia will not regret helping it and recognizing its independence, South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity said, RIA Novosti reports.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on August 26th, 2008, recognizing the independence of the former Georgian republics.
Kokoity hopes that Russian policy towards South Ossetia will remain the same.Medvedev confirmed at a recent meeting in Sochi that Russia will not change its decision.
Kokoity sent a letter to Medvedev on Thursday thanking him for Russia's support.
South Ossetia is seeing celebrations all over the country. Tskhinvali held a round table dedicated to the two years of independence through the etes of journalists and experts.
The head of South Ossetian Media-Center ‘IR’ Irina Gagloyeva confirmed the importance of August 26th for the people of South Ossetia as a long awaited historical event.
