First work of ‘Chechenfilm’ will be based of Chekhov

The first project of ‘Chechenfilm’, established in June 2009 under the order of the president, will be a film called ‘Misery’ based on Chekhov, RIA Novosti reports, citing the head of the film studio director Inal Shripov.


He told that he was working on Shakespeare’s ‘King Lear’ but the federal agency for press and mass communications offered a work by Chekhov, who’s 150 anniversary will be celebrated. The project will be worth $2 million.


Sheripov said that they expect half of the sum to be provided by the Russian Ministry of Culture and the rest by investors. They expect to start preparations in September and the work should be done in May next year.


Sheripov is the general producer of the European Assoiation of Cinema and Television.
He said that they already received a letter from ‘Russia’ channel, which wants to demonstrated the release of the film.


The director is making the script himself, together with a screen writer Ilya Avramenko. The leading role will be played by a well-known Chechen actor Dagun Omayev. Liudmila Gurchenko, Vladimir Etush, Alexey Petrenko are also expected to take part.


‘Chechenfilm’ will base on the material-technical base of ‘Mosfilm’, which is expected to be used for 5-7 years.

The head of ‘Mosfilm’ Kraen Shakhnazarov, Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography Vladimir Malyshev, director Vladimir Naumov, sculptor Zurab Tsereteli and singer Joseph Kobzon are part of the guardianship board of ‘Chechenfilm’.


Sheripov also told about the discussion of the screen version of Yukio Mishima with Akira Kurosawa.
