Batumi Mayor Jemal Ananidze requested resignation yesterday due to the upcoming elections of local autonomies, Georgia Online reports.
Ananidze noted that he had often been accused of working for a certain political party, though he had never been a member of any. He added that one of his four deputies will be the acting mayor.
Ananidze had been the Vice Mayor of Batumi since 2010 and has been the Mayor since October 4, 2012. He had been in charge of finances of the Mayor's Office before becoming the Vice Mayor.
