Russia calls for peace during Olympics

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has urged all states involved in armed conflicts, especially in Syria, to cease fire during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, RIA Novosti reports.Lavrov’s message says that a cease-fire would meet UN General Assembly Resolution 68/9 on “building a peaceful and better world through sport and the Olympic ideal.”The logic of the political and diplomatic peace process in Syria meets the international conference on Syria hosted by Geneva on January 22. The talks were held under mediation of the UN.
