Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has donated $170,000 to the Dr. Shapira Hospital, the only Jewish hospital in the country, founded in Tehran over 70 years ago, RIA Novosti reports.
About 25,000 Jews live in Iran, being the largest Jewish community of the Middle East.Jews in Iran are not discriminated against, although the Iranian government often makes anti-Israeli political statements. Iranian ex-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, predecessor of Rouhani, denied instances of the anti-Jewish policy of the 1930-1940s.
Rouhani told CNN in late September 2013 that he recognized the fact of the Holocaust and the crimes of the Nazis against the Jewish people.
