Georgy Khukhashvili, an advisor to a Georgian ex-prime minister, has commented on preparations to sign the Georgian-EU association agreement. Gogi Topadze, a leader of the Industry Will Save Georgia Party, demanded the text of the association agreement to be published for public discussions.
Khukhashvili said that the Georgian economy was not ready for a common European market and its products could not meet the standards of the EU. He noted that the document should be signed only on condition that Georgia will be given time to harmonize with the standards.
The advisor wants Georgia to discuss the risks with Europe to get temporary preferences for its market. He believes that problems and risks of signing the association agreement should be kept a secret. Khukhashvili added that wise moves could bring Georgia to sign the association agreement without losing access to the Russian market.
