Kadyrov urges clergy to intervene in blood feuds

Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov has set a new goal for the republic's clergy – to reconcile families that are in the midst of blood feuds. Kadyrov said that he is ready to become a mediator in the process, RIA Novosti reports.

The initiative is due to the sacred month of Ramadan. The president said that there are over 50 families innovled in blood feuds. The president spoke on the issue at the Council of Alims and the heads of Chechen administration on Friday. He ordered the establishment of a working group consisting of authoritative and well-known imams in the republic to organize and coordinate the reconciliation work. The group will be headed by a deputy of the State Duma, Adam Delimkhanov.

Kadyrov reminded that the older generation of clergy was paying great attention to the process of reconciliation and was solving even the most complicated conflicts at their very beginning. Kadyrov emphasized that it does not mean that the guilty will avoid responsibility.
