South Ossetia collects 7 million rubles for fire victims in Russia

The authorities and citizens of South Ossetia have collected 7 million rubles to help the victims of forest fires in Russia and money is still being collected, the Department of Information and Press of the Russian Foreign Ministry announced, RIA Novosti reports.


A group of cars with humanitarian aid worth 4.9 million rubles travelled to Nizhny Novgorod from Tskhinvali on August 24th. The cargo includes bedding, furniture, clothes, shoes and household items. Another group will be sent in the autumn, carrying South Ossetian fruit and vegetables. Russia highly appreciates the help, the message of the Foreign Ministry says.


29,000 fires covering 927,500 hectares have been reported in Russia, due to the anomalous heat this year. 50 people have died and 2,500 houses have burned down.
