Tajik migrants to work in Russia for three years

Members of the lower house of the Tajik parliament have ratified amendments to the Tajik-Russian inter-governmental agreement on labour activities and protection of each others citizens, RIA Novosti reports.Tajik Minister for Labour, Migration and Employment Sumangul Tagoyeva said that the amendments allowed Tajik people to work in Russia for three years. They are currently allowed to work for only a year and must leave the country after expiration of the terms.According to official information, about 800,000 people left Tajikistan and over 643,000 returned. Tagoyeva clarified that about 90% of all labour migrants from Tajikistan were moving to Russia.The Russian government introduced the bill on ratification of the document to the lower house of parliament in January. A protocol allowing Tajik workers to receive work permits for 3 years was signed in Moscow on October 2013.
