The Ingush reconciliation commission held a session yesterday to discuss its progress in the past 5 years. The commission has achieved reconciliation of 60 clans and ended over 100 conflicts. Ingush Leader Yunus-Bek Yevkurov told Vestnik Kavkaza that would even be worth the time if it brought peace bewteen only two families and prevented a single death.
Yevkurov recalled that there had been a marriage between a man and a woman from clans that had been in a feud just a week earlier. So they had been waiting for a chance to make a family and they had succeeded.
In the words of Yevkurov, the commission has no goal to end any ethnic traditions. The work of the commission was split into three categories, depending on the difficulty of situations.
The Ingush leader ordered the reconciliation commission to intensify its work by inviting theologians and religious officials with influence.
