In a joint statement after a meeting of foreign and defense ministers of Russia and Egypt the countries confirmed a common position on the rejection of any foreign interference in the situation in Syria and underscored the need to continue efforts to resolve the political crisis in that country.
"Ministers expressed their deep concern at the continuing violence and instability in Syria , which has led to thousands of deaths and injuries, as well as to an increase in the number of internally displaced persons and refugees, along with large-scale destruction of infrastructure and institutions in Syria", cites the statement ITAR-TASS. "They reaffirmed the sovereignty , independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria and the categorical rejection of any foreign interference in its affairs , and also emphasized the right of the Syrian people to live in freedom, stability , security and prosperity."
Participants also supported the political settlement of the Syrian conflict, that was launched at the international conference Geneva - 2, " through the use of direct inter-Syrian negotiations aimed at the full implementation of the Geneva communique of June 30, 2012 and the relevant provisions of resolution 2118 of the UN Security Council."
The parties reaffirmed their determination in addition to support the successful completion of chemical disarmament Syria in accordance with resolution 2118 of the UN Security Council and decisions of the Executive Council of the OPCW.
