Israel refuses to pay $20 million for Freedom Flotilla incident

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has refused to pay $20 million to relatives of people killed in the Freedom Flotilla incident in 2010, ANSPRESS reports.

Netanyahu does not want criticism from the ultra-right wing for paying such a vast sum. He also declined Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s demand to lift blockade of the Gaza Sector.

Israel prepared an agreement on February 3 to pay compensations for the attack on the Freedom Flotilla. The funds were to be transferred to a humanitarian fund and distributed among families of victims of the incident.

Israel renewed negotiations with Turkey and apologized for the incident only in March 2013.
