House of South Ossetian presidential staff's head attacked

The house of Boris Chochiyev, the head of the South Ossetian presidential staff, was attacked on Sunday. Someone threw a bomb into the yard of the official's house. Neither the official nor his family members were injured.

The president of the semi-recognized republic, Leonid Tibilov, reacted to the attack immediately, holding a meeting of the republic's Security Council. Addressing the members of the council, the president called for a thorough investigation into the crime.

According to Russian expert Sergey Rekeda, the attack may somehow be connected with the coming parliamentary elections in South Ossetia. The expert also doesn't rule out the possibility of a foreign undertone to the attack, which may have been launched in order to destabilize the situation in the republic ahead of the polls.
