Tehran is hosting the ninth two-week session of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IIPU). The talks started with a speech of Speaker of the Sudanese Parliament Fatih Aziz al-Din Mansour, who chaired the 8th session. Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani chairs the current session, Trend reports.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is expected to make a speech at the meeting.
47 out of 52 member-states of the Union attend the session.
Iran initiated formation of the IIPU in 1999 to strengthen inter-parliamentary ties of Islamic states to find solutions to topical problems of the Islamic world.
