U.S. withdrawal from Iraq is a gesture before the U.S. congressional elections, said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast, Trend reports.
Mr Mehmanparast said that before the upcoming elections, President Barack Obama made a gesture to secure victory for the Democratic Party. However, the 50,000-strong American military contingent is actually continuing activities in various areas in Iraq.
According to the Minister, this shows that the U.S. will not withdraw from Iraq. The people of the United States are tired of war, and Obama has taken such a step in order to win votes in elections, Mehmanparast said.
Elections to the U.S. Congress will be held on November 2nd 2010.
