Turkish President Abdullah Gul approved the new law on Internet control in the country yesterday, ANS reports.
Turkish telecommunication authorities will be able to close websites for 4 hours without the need for a court ruling.
Turkish Minister for Communications Lutfi Elvan talked with three opposition fractions in parliament and proposed amendments to the bill so that websites would only be blocked under sanctions of the court.
The Justice and Development Party proposed a procedure where the head of the telecommunication administration would ask the court for permission to block a website. The court will have a day to decide whether to give permission.
