Ukrainian ex-president calls for dialogue and constitutional reform

Former president of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk has condemned the continuing violence in Kyiv and calls for dialogue between the opposition and President Viktor Yanukovych.

"The anti-crisis measures taken by both the opposition and the authorities are necessary right now. The authorities should stop any violence whatsoever and so should the opposition forces," the former president told Russia's private Dozhd TV channel.

Kravchuk stresses that the country needs a new constitution, which will establish a semi-presidential republic. However it should not be the 2004 Constitution, but a new truly democratic and developed document, he says.
