Ukrainian ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has met EU Chief Diplomat Catherine Ashton in Kiev, says Ashton’s spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic, ITAR-TASS reports.
Ashton arrived in Kiev yesterday. She laid flowers to commemorate victims of clashes between protesters and police in Kiev. Ashton met Alexander Turchinov, Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament and Acting President. She met Acting Minister for Finances Yuri Kolobov, candidate for prime minister Petr Poroshenko, head of the parliamentary fraction of the Party of Regions Alexander Yefremov, his deputy Sergey Tigipko, leader of the UDAR Party Vitaly Klitschko, leader of the Freedom Party Oleg Tyagnibok and leader of the Fatherland fraction Arseny Yatsenyuk.
Financial aid for Ukraine was the main topic for their discussions. Ashton arrived in Ukraine to show support in coping with the political crisis and to help stabilize the economic situation.
According to the schedule, Ashton is supposed to be in South Korea today.
