Ambassador Michael McFaul is returning from Russia to the US today. He plans to give lectures on state service at the Stanford University and return to Russia as a tourist in the future, RIA Novosti reports.
He said that there were several candidates to replace him as the ambassador. McFaul reminded that the president will pick one of them and wait for the approval of the Senate.
President Barack Obama introduced McFaul as the candidate to be the US Ambassador to Russia in September 2011. Up until then, McFaul had worked as a Special Presidential Envoy and Director of the Russia and Eurasia Section of National Security Council. Senators approved his candidature on December 17.
Michael McFaul announced the end of his diplomatic carrier in February 2014.
