Extremism escalates in Russia

Head of the Russian Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin said that the rate of extremist-related crimes had grown by 29%, compared with 2013, RIA Novosti reports.

Deputy Secretary of the Russian National Security Council Vladimir Nazarov said at a session on extremism control in the UFD hosted by Tyumen that a more efficient migration and national policy was needed to prevent extremism and nationalism. Otherwise, attempts to cause interethnic tensions, promote xenophobia will only continue, according to Nazarov.

The deputy secretary added that there was a surplus of migrants and no mechanisms for proper social adaption working for them.

Nazarov noted that special attention should be paid to distribution of extremist materials in mass media and social networks.
