Deposed president calls for territorial integrity of Ukraine

Ousted president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, who is now in exile in Russia, says the Crimea should remain an autonomous part of Ukraine. Yanukovych said so today in the Russian city of Rostov-upon-Don, where he held a press conference.

"As the incumbent president of Ukraine, I should say that the Crimea should remain a part of the Ukrainian state," the deposed president said.

The tensions on the peninsula are increasing. The Crimean Parliament has recently dismissed the local government and appointed a pro-Russian politician as the prime minister of the Autonomous Republic.

A parliamentary meeting has been held after unknown armed men captured the residence of the parliament.
