Ukrainian legislators plan to pass a bill jailing citizens obtaining second citizenship for 10 years, Yuga.ru reports.
Members of the Fatherland Party Alexander Brigints, Leonid Yemtsov and Andrey Pavlovsky are the authors of the bill and presented it to the parliament in early February. Ukrainians receiving Russian passports may be imprisoned for 3-10 years.
Russia introduced a bill on February 28 to simplify the citizenship procedures for Ukrainians. They will receive Russian passports without paying fees and will not need a residency qualification in Russia. The Russian Consulate General in Simferopol started handing out passports on Saturday. The Berkut police units were the first to receive them.
