Dagestani President Ramazan Abdulatipov met Ali Muhiddin al-Karadaghi, Secretary General of the International Union for Muslim Scholars yesterday. The latter had arrived from the International Theological Conference, RIA Dagestan reports.
Syrian Grand Mufti Qaftar called Muslims good-natured, according to Abdulatipov. The president noted that every person had the right to choose a religion and the government should protect this right. He emphasized the importance of unity among Muslims and peaceful co-existence with other religions, primarily Christians.
Abdulatipov reminded that Dagestan had been a part of Russia for over 200 years and cannot afford any religious discords in the republic. He believes that all problems come from ignorance. Abdulatipov noted plans to found the Dagestani Humanitarian University.
