Adalyat Muradov has replaced Shamsaddin Gajiyev as the new Rector of the Azerbaijani State Economic University. He was presented to the staff of the university yesterday. He has become the third rector of the University during Education Minister Michael Jabbarov’s terms of office. The heads of the Ganja and Sumgayit Universities were dismissed over corruption investigations, as was Gajiyev himself.
Professor Adalyat Muradov was born in Agdam. He graduated from the Taras Shevchenko Kiev National University as an economist in 1990. He was one of the young people in Azerbaijan studying abroad from 1970 to 1987, according to Heydar Aliyev’s state program. He became a Candidate of Economic Sciences in 1993. In 1998, at the age of 36, Muradov became a Doctor of Science. He has written over 60 scientific works and educational books.
He worked at Kiev National University, being a post-graduate student, until 1999. Then he returned to Azerbaijan and was hired by the Presidential Academy of State Management. He moved to the Ministry for Economic Development where he headed the department for macroeconomic analysis and forecasts. In 2007 he was put in charge of a section of the WTO, simultaneously being the secretary of the State Commission for the WTO. In 2009, Muradov became the head of the section for analysis, forecasts and economic policy.
Muradov is not a public figure and has given journalists little information about his personal life. He is a very educated person, a skilled specialist in economics and has no record of any suspicious affairs in his biography. Adalyat Muradov, nicknamed Legendary Adalyat, was a respectful man at Kiev University.
Muradov may also serve as an example of the successful policy of Heydar Aliyev, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Azerbaijani SSR. He will help the modern government implement educational reforms. The 1970-1987 students studying abroad have now become high-skilled administrators of President Ilham Aliyev.
Muradov told Vestnik Kavkaza that he was grateful to President Ilham Aliyev for the honour and trust and will live up to his expectations. He expressed commitment to the president’s policy of converting “black gold” into human capital.
