A bill has been introduced to the Russian State Duma that would ban the mass media from broadcasting statements by terrorists.
The author of the bill, United Russian lawmaker Robert Shlegel, explained that he had introduced an amendment to the Mass Media Law, “according to which the spread of materials on behalf of those suspected of terrorist activities is prohibited," reports ITAR-TASS.
Shlegel pointed out that the reason for the amendments was the media coverage of the bomb attacks on the Moscow metro which took 40 lives.
"The fact that largest media outlets in the country carried a statement by the terrorist Doku Umarov is unacceptable,” Shlegel said. “The media should only report the elimination of terrorists."
