Putin insists on legitimacy of Crimea's referendum

In phone talks with British Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian President Vladimir Putin underlined today that Russia insists that the referendum in Crimea is legitimate and based on international law.

The Autonomous Republic is going to hold a referendum concerning Crimea possibly joining the Russian Federation. The Ukrainian government has already announced that it would not recognise the results of the referendum and accused Crimea's Prime Minister Sergey Aksyonov of staging a coup.
