Ukraine’s Yanukovych calls government a background for nationalists

Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych has accused the new government of being a background for nationalists. He emphasized in Rostov-on-Don that he was the legitimate leader of Ukraine and was planning to return to Kiev as soon as possible.

Yanukovych calls the May 25 presidential polls in Ukraine illegal. He assured that everyone responsible will be punished.

He called all accusations against himself and Russia unjustified.

Yanukovych made his first speech in Rostov-on-Don on February 28.

Ukrainian political analyst Igor Gridasov noted that Yanukovych had decided to use the same tactic as he had done at the February 28 conference, but it will not help him get his power back. Gridasov predicts that the Ukrainian president will focus on criticizing social aspects of the new government, if it causes aggravation of living standards.The analyst said that Yanukovych was not considered a legitimate president and his supporters was reluctant to confront the new authorities.
