A panel discussion devoted to possible multilateral cooperation in the Caspian region was held in Moscow on Tuesday. The event was organized by the Caspian Cooperation Institute.
According to the head of the body, Sergey Mikheyev, the Caspian countries could cooperate with each other in a much more effective way. Such cooperation would be extremely beneficial to all parties, he stresses.
Addressing the assembly, Azerbaijani scholar Oktay Sadykhov stressed that the dispute over the official status of the Caspian Sea has a historical background and that his country insists that the issue should be solved in accordance with international law.
Iranian expert Sharif Abbas Maleki agreed that international law should be the basis of the resolution of the Caspian issue and underlined that mutual cooperation would be important for this process.
