Georgia to receive NATO membership plan in September

Georgia may receive the plan for NATO membership at the Alliance summit in the UK in September, depending on whether Crimea joins Russia or not, Kommersant reports.

Georgia needs to meet political, economic, military and legal standards in order to join the NATO.

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said in 2013 that Georgia will be given an opportunity to join the NATO Response Force in 2015. Georgian Prime Minister Irakly Garibashvili said in January that the country hoped to receive the action plan for NATO membership in 2014.
