14 members of the US Senate Committee for Foreign Affairs have voted for sanctions to protect Ukraine and three voted against it, RIA Novosti reports.
The project includes reforms of the Interior Ministry, permission to block assets and nullify visas of people responsible for violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and human rights.
The US views Russia as a threat to Ukraine’s sovereignty. A non-binding resolution to boot Russia from G8 was passed at the US Congress on Tuesday, together with visa and economic sanctions.
The bill to help Ukraine was developed by 11 senators of both parties. The Congress voted to grant Ukraine $1 billion last week. The Ukrainian Ministry for Finances said that it will need about $35 billion in 2014-2015.
Voting for the bill may take place next week. Senators John McCain and Marco Rubio vote against the bill due to increase of IMF financing.
