Authorization process starts in Georgian schools

The process of authorization of schools and higher education centers has started in Georgia, according to the law, Georgia Online reports. A special briefing was organized for the issue by the head of the National Center for Education Quality Improvement, David Kereselidze.

He said that the Ministry of Education will have approved the authorization charter by September 15th 2010, and accreditation charter by March 1st 2011. Education centers that do not undergo the authorization process will lose the status of education center and will lose the ability to give degrees of bachelor, masters or doctorates, professional qualifications or to issue diplomas.

Those that started studies before the law came into force will get qualification if the higher education center presents the list of students within a ten-day period.

Kereselidze urged all students to avoid entering education centers that are not recognized by the government.

School accreditation is voluntary.

The conditions of authorization and the price will be determined by the Ministry of Education but only private schools will pay it, the government will cover the expenses of public schools.
Licensed education centers will continue working for the period 2015-2016.
