Crimea's Prime Minister Sergey Aksyonov says some 50 percent of the Tatars, a local ethnic minority, are going to take part in the coming referendum devoted to the peninsula's official status.
The current authorities of Crimea are seeking to join the Russian Federation. The initiative has already been condemned by the Ukrainian government as illegitimate. The US and the EU have also slammed the idea.
