Crimea crisis strengthens Russia, weakens USA, says expert

US President Barack Obama told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation on Sunday-Monday night that America will not recognize the Crimean referendum results. France, UK, Italy, Canada, Japan, Turkey and Georgia expressed a similar attitude towards the process. Vladimir Yevseyev, Director of the Center for Socio-Political Studies, believes that the international reaction does not necessarily mean political isolation. On the contrary, says the expert, the position of the West will only make Russia stronger and weaken the political positions of the USA.

Yevseyev blames the US for the fall of Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych. He assures that the refusal of the West to recognize the Crimean referendum results means nothing. The analyst notes that Latin America supports Russia. China backs Russia unofficially.

The expert says that the West is not the only part of the world with which Russia can cooperate. He proposed the formation of a Russian-Chinese alliance to withstand US pressure. Yevseyev predicts that the US strategy will some day play against it.

He expresses confidence that the balance of forces will change after the Ukraine crisis, which will inevitably end. Yevseyev forecasts that Russia will become stronger, while the US would weaken.
