Russian servicemen carry out exercises in Abkhazia

Practical field exercises with infantry units of a Russian military base in the Southern Military District have been held at Nagvalou in Abkhazia.

Up to 500 soldiers participated in these events, with more than 50 pieces of weapons and military equipment involved.

Servicemen of the compound, as reported in the press service of the Southern Military District, made a 100-mile march to a landfill on a regular exercise in which they were trained to repel air attacks and attacks of sabotage and reconnaissance groups of imaginary enemy, to conduct engineering and NBC reconnaissance of the routes of approach, and to overcome zones of radioactive , chemical and biological contamination.

Special attention has been paid to working on interaction of motorized infantry with attached tank and artillery units in the conduct of manoeuvering defensive combat on the shore. The field work ended with tactical exercises with combat shooting.

Soldiers will also perform combat shooting of weapons BTR- 82A, mortars "Sani," flame throwers RPO -A "Shmel'," automatic and hand grenade launchers AGS-17 and RPG- 7, as well as small targets arms imitating armored vehicles and gun emplacements.
