Iran and Group of Six to discuss Arak reactor

Michael Mann, spokesman of EU Chief Diplomat Catherine Ashton, said that political directors of Iran and the Group of Six will discuss a full-fledged treaty to settle the Iranian nuclear problem.

The second round of talks may end on Wednesday.

According to Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi, the sides will discuss the Arak heavy-water reactor today. Western experts fear that plutonium the facility uses may be used for military purposes. Iran, according to the diplomat, does not plan to shut the reactor down.

In the two days of talks in Vienna, Iran and the mediators plan to discuss 3 out of 9 issues, including uranium enrichment and international cooperation in peaceful nuclear energy. Aragchi noted that the topics had been discussed on Tuesday.

As Aragchi reminded, the Geneva agreement Iran and the Group of Six signed will balance the program with the real demands of the republic. Iran may cooperate in construction of research and energy reactors using light water.
