Dispute of Georgian ex-PM and president

Georgian ex-Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, leader of the Georgian Dream coalition, expressed disappointment with President Georgy Margvelashvili. Nika Chitadze, Head of the Center for Studies of Security and International Relations, expressed confidence that the problem Margvelashvili’s more moderate approach towards the United National Movement. Moreover, Margvelashvili received ambassadors at ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili’s residence. Another reason is that Ivanishvili expressed support for Garibashvili as an opponent of Margvelashvili.

Petre Mamradze, Head of the Institute for Strategic Management, said that Margvelashvili had been showing absolute loyalty towards Ivanishvili when the latter had been at power. Mamradze pointed out that Margvelashvili was always trying to take the stronger side and give up whenever  his opponent prevails.

Margvelashvili’s flexibility, according to the expert, have no impact on the political situation. The true power, he believes, is in the hands of Garibashvili.
