Federation Council of Russia votes to adjoin Crimea

155 senators of the Federation Council of Russia have unanimously voted to adjoin Crimea as a new territory of Russia. The Crimean Republic and the federal city of Sevastopol have now become part of the federal state.

The lower house of the Russian parliament voted for the mergence process yesterday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and authorities of Crimea signed the annexation agreement on Tuesday. The Federation Council was the final organ that needed to approve the consolidation of territories.

Amendments to the Constitution, where Crimea will be put in as one of the subjects, will be introduced. Rossiyskaya Gazeta will publish them tomorrow.
