UN urges Turkey and Syria to refrain from tensions over jet incident

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon met Turkish President Abdullah Gul at the nuclear security summit in The Hague and urged Turkey to refrain from tensions over a Syrian MiG-23 shot down over Turkish territory on Sunday, Ban Ki-moon’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric said, ITAR-TASS reports.According to Dujarric, the secretary general and president discussed the situation in Syria and the inter-Syrian talks in Geneva. Ban Ki-moon praised Turkey for helping refugees and encouraged it to provide humanitarian aid.Damascus gave permission for delivery of humanitarian aid through Turkish territory yesterday. A convoy of 20 trucks with 660 tons of food for Qamishli from Turkey was given passage on March 20.
