Nabil Elaraby, Secretary General of the Arab League (LAS), said at the 25th session of the organization in Kuwait that the Geneva-2 Conference had failed to resolve the Syrian conflict, despite efforts of Lakhdar Brahimi, Special Envoy of the UN and the LAS, RIA Novosti reports.
In his words, countries should focus on political settlement of the conflict that threatens regional security of the Arab world. He emphasized that there were hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees in neighbour states of Syria.
The LAS session opened today. Syria’s membership in the organization was frozen in November 2011. Algeria, Iraq and Egypt did not vote to give Ahmad al-Karba, Leader of the Syrian National Coalition, the seat of Syria in the LAS. He was invited for the opening. The LAS consists of 21 countries and the Palestine Liberation Organization.
